Letter from the Membership VP

Hello Moms,

I joined the MOMS Club a little over a year ago.  I remember being so thankful that there was a group of mothers right here in Berkley that I could get together with & share the experience of being a stay-at-home mom.  I had just had my first child in July & was dealing with this huge change in my life.

Everyone tells you having children is hard but until you go ahead & do it (& live it) you have absolutely NO IDEA!  I had such a naïve idea of what it was going to be like even though I waited until my early 30’s to start a family.   I heard about the “baby blues” but was still shocked when I felt the way I did shortly after having Nicholas.  I remember feeling very disconnected to him.   I would call him “the baby” and not by his name.  I remember feeling so scared to be alone with him after my husband went back to work.  I felt very guilty for all sorts of things.  Being part of a group of ladies who are going through the same things has really helped.  A month or so ago I was at the business meeting (running constantly after my very active son) and a few of the moms encouraged me so much by saying that by 18 - 20 months I should notice him starting to calm down a little (even a tiny bit of decreased activity I’ll welcome with open arms).  Those words of wisdom are so precious when you are at your limit & don’t know what to do.   There’s been a number of times since joining the club that just talking with some of the mothers has helped me move out of feeling tired & discouraged to being more hopeful about things.   I’m very grateful we have this great group of women to lean on & learn from.

The holidays are just around the corner & with that the long winter.  I’m hoping we’ll have more moms offer to host playgroups for the months ahead so we can have a lot of activities to look forward to (& keep the kids entertained) as well as a chance to chit chat more.

 Happy Thanksgiving,
Sue

Family FUDDraiser at Fuddruckers

Thank you to all who participated in the Family Fundraiser at Fuddruckers on Thursday, November 3.   We had over ten members present plus quite a few of their family and friends.  So, it was a very successful event.  We will have a final tally to report very soon.  We are estimating about $150 was raised that evening.  We will vote at December’s Business Meeting which charity to help out during or after the holiday season.  It is important to attend in December so you get your vote counted!

The winner of our beautiful Fall Basket was Kathys mother-in-law.  And Kathy says, “no, it was not rigged!”

Kathy, we hope you will enjoy a little of the basket since you created such a great arrangement!

Thanks again to everyone for making it a fun-filled fall night!

Woman to Woman Encouragement

Someone will always be smarter. Their house will be bigger. They will drive a better car. Their children will do better in school. And their partners will fix more things around the house. So let it go and love you and your circumstances. Think about it. The prettiest woman in the world can have hell in her heart. And the most highly favored woman on your job may be unable to have children. The richest woman you know - she's got the car, the house, the clothes - might be heartbreakingly lonely. So, love you. Love who you are right now. Tell yourself, "I am too blessed to be stressed." Be blessed ladies and pass this message on to encourage another woman. "To the world you might be one person, but to one person you just might be the world.".

If you give a mom a muffin,

She'll want a cup of coffee to go with it. She'll pour herself some.
Her three-year-old will spill the coffee. She'll wipe it up.

Wiping the floor, she'll find dirty socks. She'll remember she has to do laundry. When she puts the laundry in the washer, She'll trip over boots and bump into the freezer.

Bumping into the freezer will remind her she has to plan for supper.

She will get out a pound of hamburger. She'll look for her cookbook ("101 Things To Do With a Pound of Hamburger" ).

The cookbook is setting under a pile of mail. She will see the phone bill, which is due tomorrow.

She will look for her checkbook.

The check book is in her purse that is being dumped out by her two-year-old.

She'll smell something funny.

She'll change the two-year-old's diaper. While she is changing the diaper, the phone will ring.

Her five-year-old will answer and hang up.

She'll remember she wants to phone a friend for coffee.

Thinking of coffee will remind her that she was going to have a cup.

And chances are... If she has a cup of coffee,

Her kids will have eaten the muffin that went with it.

Halloween Party was a Howling Hit!

The Berkley MOMS Club held its annual Halloween potluck on Friday, October 28. There were plenty of treats, but without the tricks!! The kids worked on a pumpkin craft, went on a parade thru the church which ended with trick-or-treating at the pastor’s office. Thank you to our party coordinator, Heather, for a wonderful party, and thanks to those who brought food, set up and cleaned up! Hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween!
