Gobble Gobble. Its turkey time!
It is time to give thanks for all of our blessings. Here are some fun ways to teach children an important part of this holiday.
Create a Thankful Tree. Use construction paper. Trace and cut out the shape of your hands. Have each family create as many as desired. Write what you are thankful for on each leaf. Have a large tree trunk ready to go out of brown paper…use poster board or grocery bags. Attach the leaves to the tree. This is a great project for Thanksgiving Day. Have all of the relatives create a “thankful” hand leaf. Save the Thankful Tree for next year and add to it. Remember to date your leafs. Using acid free (scrapbook paper) will help prevent fading and aging of paper from year to year.
Create a Thankful wreath. Have each child cut the center out of a paper plate. Attach fall colored leaf shapes to the plate. Write messages on the leaves of what they are thankful for. Embellish with fall ribbon or twine. Hang for all to see.
Thankful Turkey. Cut a big brown circle out for a turkey body. Add a smaller brown circle in the center for a head. Add googly eyes, orange triangle beak and a red wavy waddle. Attach construction feather shaped “feathers” to the back of the turkey. Write messages of thanksgiving on each “feather”.
