2004 Robot




2004 Gearbox




This gearbox operated the base joint of a large arm. The motor turned at 4000 rpm, and after the gear reduction the arm rotated at about 3 rpm. We also designed and built a strap and drum type brake to lock the arm in position when the motor is not operating, to avoid the weight of the arm backdriving the motor.



2005 Gearbox



This gearbox used the same motor as the 2004 gearbox, and had about the same reduction ratio. Learning from out mistakes lat year we made this one much stronger and much simpler. The only parts made using CNC set ups were the two plates locating the shafts, and even then the CNC machine was used out of convenience rather than necessity.
